From
my research I learnt the layout of a film poster and how they don’t give away
to much through the poster, it has to be interesting and it has to sell the
film. I learned the poster would seem plain compared to the DVD sleeve. I
learnt what people like and want with this particular genre. I learnt from
researching magazine covers that it has to be interesting and has to sell the
magazine just from the cover and you should include what’s to come in the
magazine on the cover to attract the audience.
Overall
I enjoyed making all 3 products but I enjoyed making the magazine cover the
most, as I had not done that yet. If I was to change anything I would of
challenged myself with the poster and DVD sleeve.

When
we were given this assignment I knew I wanted to do romance but something a
little different from the previous year, so I decided to create a vampire film,
I watch a lot of romance and have seen a lot of vampire romance films so I
thought ill stick with what I know. After I had made the decision I researched
films and TV like The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries, I made a choice
for these as I love them both and know a lot about them so I researched into the
story line to come up with my own and studied the poster and DVD sleeve, which
game the idea of dark and mysterious settings.
My storyline was inspired by
Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, I find both storylines interesting and both
very different as The Vampire Diaries is a series so there was lots to take
from. From previous lessons in the past 2 years in film studies I learnt that
when creating a story within a genre you have to stick to the rules of that
genre and give the audience what they want to see, for example a basic romance
story will start with the meet then kiss, argue and a happy ending compared to
a typical horror story which starts with a group of teenagers camping out and
one friend will wonder of get killed and in the end it ends up being one of the
friends who is the murderer.
I first started planning the storyline
to help me produce the final poster and make it easier. When coming up with the
storyline I found myself incorporating other storylines into my own so I made a
spider diagram to help me stay on track with my own storyline and once I had
done that I was happy with my finished story.
I had finished my poster before we
were given the next task on the assignment so that gave me time to improve the
poster and add little touches to make it perfect. I added the smoke and darker
blood to the improved version I also changed the position of the pictured and title
to see which worked best.
For my magazine I had a look at a few
magazines that explore fashion gossip and music, I researched into the layout
and what I should look like and what’s appropriate. I liked the idea of a plain
background so any writing was easy to read. I did a few re-makes of my magazine
to see which would look better. I enjoyed making the magazine the most, as it
was a lot of fun to do the photo-shoot and see it all come together in the end.
From this assignment I found my
imagination skills aren’t the best but improving, my Photoshop skills are
improving also.

Firstly
we were asked to create a poster for an upcoming film we had created
individually. Firstly we were asked to create a storyline for a film to make it
easier to produce a poster. The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries inspired
my storyline; I chose these vampire films, as I wanted mine to be a romance
film as well as a vampire film. I started out designing my title; I decided to
make it myself using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Illustrator CS6 to make it
my own, again I used The Vampire Diaries title/logo to give me ideas. The style
of my poster is dark and mysterious, so I added the setting of the woods and
added smoke to add to the effect, the technical quality used is up to the
expected standards and was carefully edited using Photoshop. When people seen
the poster I wanted them to be intrigued and want to see more. My audience group
aimed at 15+ teenagers as the film is certificated 15, I think my poster will
attract the females more than the males.
After
producing the film poster we were then asked to produce a DVD sleeve to the
poster, my DVD sleeve is obviously very similar to my poster as I didn’t want
to confuse audience, on the DVD sleeve it goes into the film with a little more
detail but not too much. My DVD sleeve contains a different setting from the
poster but is still recognisable as the main character Is still on the front.
There is also a short blurb on the back, telling the audience what the film is
about without spoiling it. There are also quotes from other magazines on there
praising the film. I researched The Vampire Diaries DVD sleeve and used some of
the ideas to make it look professional but of course changing it to fit my
genre.
We
were then asked to research and produce a magazine cover of our choice whether
it was fashion, music, sport or games. I chose to do a music magazine, as I
love music. I started with a photo-shoot using a classmate who was going to be
the artist. After I had got my picture and photo shopped it so it was perfect
for my magazine cover I then began creating the layout around it and where I
want all the information. The style of my magazine cover is plain but
interesting with a blank background and a purple theme. It includes what the
magazine of that month has to offer, price, who the artist is, any deals within
the magazine and celebrity news, I added these to intrigue the audience and to add
a little insight into the magazine I want them to help see the magazine. My
intended audience is 12+ for any who loves music and loves reading magazines
and gossip. I used Photoshop to create my final design, as the years progress
my Photoshop skills increase so the quality is up to standard.
Overall
I enjoyed making the magazine the most as I had made film posters on my first
year and prefer that poster. I love working with Photoshop and seeing something
come together in the end. My Photoshop skills can still be improved as I have
much more to learn. I found this assignment easy and got it completed on time.

Photoshoot for magazine
These are the pictures i took of my friend (Beth Wilson) for my magazine. After i had took them i used 'Adobe Bridge CS6' to put them into a PDF file which allowed me to print them out and cross out which ones i defiantly didn't want.
